An historic Liverpool office building — whose interior and exterior have both featured in popular television dramas — is being offered for sale with a near one-million pound guide price.
The Grade II-listed Rodney Street property, located in the city’s Georgian Quarter, is believed to have been the street’s first inhabited house when it was built in either 1797 or 1798. By the early 1800s it was home to John Deane, the former Treasurer of Liverpool.
From the mid-20th century it’s thought the property was used as a nurse’s hostel. In 1991 it was sold to marketing and communications agency Kaleidoscope which converted the building into offices. The business is now relocating and has put the property on the market through local agents Hitchcock Wright & Partners (HWP).
“This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire an outstanding property with historical Liverpool links,” said HWP partner, Brian Ricketts, who added that although the main building in Rodney Street had established office use its coach house in adjoining Roscoe Street could be converted to residential use, subject to planning consent.
The mid-terraced double-fronted Georgian property has a basement, ground and two upper floors, and an attic; all currently used as offices. “It lies within a conservation area and provides a rare opportunity to acquire a period building of outstanding quality. It has many ornate original fireplaces and period features,” Rocketts added. “We are seeking offers in excess of £990,000.”
Last year, several scenes in an episode of Foyle’s War were filmed in the hallway and ground floor. That episode was broadcast in January this year. The front of the building has also been used as a backdrop for numerous scenes for the BBC’s historical crime drama, Peaky Blinders.
