Bruton Knowles, founded more than 150 years ago and now with 13 offices nationwide, is strengthening its planning department with the appointment of qualified town planner Paul Barton. He has a wide range of experience of both urban and rural planning issues and will be working alongside Richard Brogden and Scott Winnard in the firm’s land development team.

“The Government’s decision to overhaul the planning system in a bid to kick start the construction sector has made life interesting and there remains many good opportunities,” commented Barton.

“As we head in to 2015 I believe there is an element of uncertainty as to which schemes will, and which will not, be looked on favourably — making expert local advice even more essential for development projects.”

After qualifying in 1998, Barton gained experience dealing with housing associations, local authorities and a range of national clients.

Team Manager Angus Taylor (pictured, right, with Barton) said: “Paul is an experienced Planning Consultant with whom our land development team have worked in the past, providing us with a really good opportunity to grow this area of work both as an expansion of our development capacity but also as a separate specialist skill.

“The rate at which the economy has recovered – even out here in the regions – has taken many commentators by surprise and it is vital we have a suitably experienced and qualified planning team within the Gloucester office.”
