Industry Appointments: GVA names its First Woman Regional Director

In a landmark move, commercial property adviser GVA has appointed a woman to head one of its nine regional offices.

Already a senior member of the firm’s national planning development and regeneration team for the South West and South Wales, Jo Davis will now head up GVA’s Bristol office. Her new role carries the title of regional senior director.

“Jo’s appointment is aimed at supporting a key location for us in Bristol and our future business development, a vitally important part of driving growth for all our regions,” commented GVA chief executive, Rob Bould.

Savills has strengthened its property management team with the appointment of Matthew Gioia. He joins the estate agency after four years as an associate at Workman where he specialised in the management of retail and leisure parks. Gioia will be based at Savills’ Manchester office.

Lambert Smith Hampton has also confirmed an addition to its Manchester team with Nick Mullins joining this spring after 15 years at CBRE. He has been appointed as head of funding and development at the property consultancy with special responsibility for signing new business and enhancing the company’s services.

In a third Manchester appointment, Chris Argent has joined CBRE’s office in the city as planning director. Moving from GVA, he is a food store, non-food retail and leisure developments specialist and will advise on mixed-use commercial schemes for a variety of national developer clients.

Following Jones Lang LaSalle’s (JLL) recent acquisition of the food service consultancy, Coverpoint, the firm has now added restaurant and leisure specialist Michael Webb to its central London team as a director. Webb was previously with retail property advisers CWM where he led the restaurant and leisure team for four years.

“London is the restaurant capital of the world and in Michael we have hired one of the pre-eminent restaurant and leisure experts in the commercial property market,” said Mark Smith, head of JLL’s central London retail team.

“He is an exceptional talent and has phenomenal reputation amongst clients and his peers alike.”

South Manchester commercial law firm Myerson has made two new appointments to its commercial property department.

Nicola Jackson previously worked at Gunnercooke in central London while also lecturing on property law at the University of Law. Jonathan Pickles is also joining after specialising in property law, first at Trowers & Hamlins and then Nexus Solicitors in Manchester.

Chartered surveyors Roger Hannah & Co has recruited Nicola Russell-Smith as its property financial controller. She will head up the property accounting function at the Manchester-based firm and joins with almost 10 years’ in property finance, with seven years at DTZ and more recently Savills.

Hill Dickinson’s Liverpool office has named Philip Parker as the latest member of its property litigation team. An expert in commercial landlord and tenant disputes he is moving from Brabners Solicitors in the city.
