Dan Hyde, who played for Leeds Tykes before retiring and moving into property in 2006, is joining GVA as a retail director. During his rugby career he also played professional rugby for West Hartlepool RUFC. He is currently a player and coach at the Leeds club Leodensian RUFC.

Joining from Knight Frank, Hyde’s duties will include asset management, acquisitions and development appraisals working with developers and retailers. Among his prestige clients will be stationery chain Staples and the Smoke Barbeque Restaurant Group.

“GVA is a leading and ambitious company with a bright future,” said Hyde.  “I’m really excited to be on board and able to help to drive further growth for our already successful retail team.”

Mark Rawstron is GVA’s senior regional director. “We are thrilled to welcome Dan to the commercial team,” he said. “Dan brings a wealth of experience in the retail property sectors with a great scope of knowledge and connections. This year has been a great year for GVA and we feel we have the right team in place to continue this momentum in 2015.”

Less than a month after it strengthened its northern property teams with a raft of new appointments Ward Hadaway has recruited associate Jonathan Yates and solicitor Joe Phelan.

Yates — whose recent transactions include a £14m portfolio of garden centres, a £16m office building and a £13m distribution hub — advises on a range of high street lending options as well as borrowers ranging from private individuals to limited companies.

Fellow property finance specialist, Phelan, has also advised on a wide range of assets including the refinancing of various commercial property portfolios and a multi-million pound industrial estate.

“We have seen a marked rise in work from both lenders and borrowers in the property finance sphere as the appetite for investment and development rises and the recruitment of Jonathan and Joe will be of great benefit to our clients going forward,” commented Simon Errington, a partner and head of property services at Newcastle-headquartered Ward Hadaway.

West Country law firm Lodders has strengthened its commercial estates and agricultural property team with the appointment of associate Caroline Nemecek.

Based at the firm’s Stratford-upon-Avon office, she will work alongside partner and team head, David Lodder, to provide advice to the practice’s rapidly growing portfolio of agricultural businesses and individuals working and living in the rural sector. Lodders also has branches in Henley-in-Arden and Cheltenham.

As part of its increasing focus on the property sector, SM Commercial has confirmed two new appointments at its Leeds office. It has hired Matthew Walsh as a new associate and made one of its long-standing associates, Lyndon Campbell, a partner in the national law firm.

The Manchester office of lawyers Mills & Reeve has appointed Jessica Hogg as a solicitor in its real estate team. She joins from the East Anglian legal firm of Stevensons.

Leeds-based chartered surveyors and property consultancy Sanderson Weatherall has expanded its agency team, with the appointment of Dominic Towler as graduate surveyor.
