Commercial property specialists CBRE have recruited a Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) rent and lease specialist to one of its regional teams.
Fiona Halliwell is an expert witness and a member the RICS panel of independent consultants appointed to deal with rent review disputes on North West property as well as being an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Previously a partner at Gerald Eve, she has nearly two decades of experience in dealing with rent reviews, and lease renewals. Halliwell also acts for both landlords and tenants with clients including funds, private landlords, retailers and occupiers.

Northern Law firm Watson Burton — which can trace its roots back to 1811 — has strengthened its Leeds office construction and engineering team with the appointment of Penny Tate as a partner.
An expert in procurement, development finance and bespoke building contracts, her specialties include advising on the building contracts for the £60m First Direct Arena; the £35m, 333,000 sq ft production facility for sweets giant Haribo, and the £100m Central Square Leeds development. Tate is joining from the Leeds office of DWF.
Ross Galbraith, Claire Glew and Emma Kenealy have all been recruited to the Sheffield real estate team of legal services provider DLA Piper.
Galbraith, who joins as an associate, will be assisting with new and existing construction and engineering projects. Glew has substantial experience across a range of transactions and sectors acting for both public and private sector clients. And Kenealy will be working on acquisitions, lettings, secured lending, development work and buying and selling investment properties.
The firm has also promoted Kirstie Courtney-May and Michelle Eyre, members of its business support team, to legal assistants following their completion of professional qualifications. Both will be working with the Sheffield commercial real estate team.
Four senior lawyers are joining the Manchester real estate team of national law firm Shoosmiths. “The national real estate team has been going from strength to strength and it is certainly reflected here in North West, where we have been carrying out work that has been fundamentally reshaping the city and region,” commented Vaqas Farooq, head of real estate in Manchester.
Moving to Shoosmiths from Eversheds is Ruth Clare, a senior associate in core real estate work. Sam Grange, a senior associate in planning, also joins from Eversheds where he advised on all aspects of planning and highways law, and the law relating to compulsory acquisition and compensation.
Senior associate, Garry King, and associate, Alison Howarth, will also specialise in core real estate work. King specialises in landlord and tenant issues, estate management and sales and purchases. Howarth is transferring from Mills & Reeves in Leeds, and has experience across the full range of management and investment services.
