Lloyds Bank has fielded a former professional rugby player as part of its campaign to provide smaller businesses with commercial property advice. The annual turnover limit for each company is £25m.

Glen Wilson — who was a professional with Doncaster Knights before he entered banking — has been appointed head of property for small and medium sized enterprises at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking. He will be based at the bank’s Cavendish Place offices in London.

“As the property market responds to a growing economy and increased demand for new commercial developments, it is an exciting time for me to begin this new role,” commented Wilson who, as head of mortgage quality and change at Halifax, was responsible for 850 staff with an annual lending budget of £6bn.

In the Midlands, the bank has appointed seven new specialist property professionals as part of the same nationwide initiative.

Together with head of property, Damian Mohan, the new Birmingham-based team has more than 160 years of commercial banking experience between them. They are: Harjit Samra, Andy Watts, Dave Quinney, Mike Murphy, Demetrius Demetriou and Dave Marlow.

“A wealth of successful property businesses are located across the West Midlands, and it is for this reason that we have further strengthened our dedicated local property team,” Hohan explained.

“The property sector is crucial to the on-going resurgence of the region’s economy, and our new team is made up of specialist property relationship managers who have extensive knowledge of the sector and are on hand to support organisations looking to enhance their business strategies and capabilities,” he added.

Lodders Solicitors has increased its real estate team to 14 with the appointment of two new associates.

James Mottram and Anna Turnell — who between them have more than 20 years’ experience — will both be working out of the firm’s Stratford-upon-Avon office. Lodders has two other offices at Cheltenham and Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire.

Previously with the commercial property department at SGH Martineau in Birmingham, Turnell specialises in large scale real estate investment transactions and landlord and tenant work, with an emphasis on retailer projects. Mottram joins from Gateleys’ Birmingham-based residential development team.

Scottish law firm, Lindsays, has made two promotions within its commercial and estates teams. Clare Wilson, based the group’s Glasgow office, is now a senior associate in the commercial property department and Kate Bond, working from its Edinburgh office, has been promoted to associate within the rural and estates team.

To implement its 2020 growth strategy, property consultancy Rider Levett Bucknall has appointed Russell Bolton as its new Manchester office managing partner.

Bolton, who joins from asset managers EC Harris, has a proven track record of growing consultancy practices in the North West and has worked with clients that include Peel, Bruntwood, Muse Developments and ITV.
