On Sunday 10 May at 1.30pm, eleven Movehut employees, along with 40,000 other runners, took to the starting line and with grit and determination ran 10k around Manchester in an emotionally charged day.

Starting in Manchester City Centre, it continued through Salford Quays, passing such landmarks as; Sir Alex Ferguson Way, Old Trafford, The Lowry theatre, Imperial War Museum and the Coronation Street set, while loved ones and spectators cheered them on.

At certain points throughout the run, there were cheering stations from the various charities involved including; Macmillan Cancer Support, Alzheimer’s Society, British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK who were giving their support to the participants.

There was music courtesy of Bands on the Run, from the likes of the Boon Army and Key 103, playing songs to keep the runners motivated and pumped. There were also local bands, steel drummers and brass bands to entertain the 55,000 in attendance.

Before the regular event, elite runners from Great Britain, Ethiopia and Kenya took to the track and did their part. Great Britain’s own Gemma Steele came second.

Celebrities also got involved, including; BBC Breakfast’s Louise Minchin and Bill Turnbull, former Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley Cropper) and boxer Anthony Crolla.

There were booths set up in Manchester Central where the charities provided healthy snacks and massages for the runners to get them loose and limber ready for the big event.

Movehut’s Social Media Marketing Co-Ordinator and organiser, Jessica Herrington said: “It was a very emotional day, and tears of joy ran down my face as soon as I realised I was a finisher.

“I am so proud of all my colleagues for completing the race, and thankful to everyone who has supported us and donated to our two charities. This kind of event brings everyone together, and as a team, we now work better together.

“We hope to do this event again next year, with more people from Movehut joining us, raising more money for charity along the way.”
