One of Savills’ senior London directors has accepted a new role 5,500 miles away in Seoul. Callum Young — the firm’s International and Central London director — will take charge of attracting investors to the South Korean market.
In 2007, Young joined Savills’ Scottish investment team and gained extensive investment and asset management experience across a variety of sectors. Four years later to transferred to London to strengthen its City investment team.
He has since worked on more than 25 Central London deals with a combined volume of almost £4bn. Among the headline transactions were the acquisitions of More London Estate and 21 Bloomsbury Street and the disposal of 200 Aldersgate Street and 26 Red Lion Square.
Based in the South Korean capital, Young will join the investment team which has responsibility for much of the Pacific basin. “I am delighted to be joining our market leading team in South Korea,” he said. “This new role gives me a unique opportunity to develop, understand an exciting new culture, and gain valuable international transactional experience, working alongside many of the world’s leading real estate investors.”
Mark Fleming is joint head of Savills Scotland. “After starting his career in Savills Glasgow office, Callum has gone from strength to strength,” he commented. “And, following his move down south, he has done an excellent job contributing to some of London’s most significant investment deals. This is a great opportunity for him to use his experience and skill to replicate this success over in Asia.”
A North West council has attracted one of the region’s commercial property experts to help drive forward its regeneration programme.
Nick Hynes — who spent 26 years as managing director of Macclesfield-based property company Magnus before leaving to set up his own consultancy earlier this year — has been recruited by Cheshire East Council to lead an advisory panel on the redevelopment of Macclesfield town centre.
“Nick, who was born and bred in Macclesfield and knows and loves the town as much as we do, is totally committed to making things happen so that we create a town centre fit for the 21st century,” explained Michael Jones, leader of Cheshire East Council. “I have given Nick the remit to listen to all opinions on the development and investment in Macclesfield Town Centre.”
Dual qualified as a surveyor and a town planner, Richard Sykes has been promoted to planning and development manager at award winning developer IM Properties.
Stepping into the newly created role, he will be responsible for sourcing and securing new strategic land opportunities as well as adding value to existing assets through his planning experience. Sykes previously advised on a number of developments across the Midlands, including the promotion of commercial and industrial sites, and mixed-use schemes.
“Richard’s dual experience in the surveying and planning sectors of the industry is relatively unique and we feel that he can play an important role in supporting the ambitions of the business, particularly in terms of increasing our land bank,” explained Kevin Ashfield, senior development director at IM Properties.
He said that: “Following our recent acquisition of Blythe Valley and Fore Business Parks and ongoing development of assets including Birch Coppice and the Hub, there is a wealth of opportunity for Richard to enhance our existing portfolio and support our acquisition of strategically important development sites throughout the UK.”
Northern chartered surveyors, asset managers and auctioneers, Landwood Group, has promoted Helen Lee to director. Based in the firm’s Manchester office, she joined Landwood from Eddisons in 2013 and has specialised in property valuation, management and disposal.
Commercial property and real estate services adviser, CBRE, has expanded its North West building consultancy team with a trio of appointments, taking the departmental strength to 24.
Steve Williamson has been appointed as a director in Manchester, Dylan Evans as a senior surveyor in Liverpool and Nora Jarauta as a computer aided design and workplace designer in the Manchester office. CBRE says the new appointments will strengthen the existing team “to reflect the surge in market activity”.
