Nayak is being promoted internally after joining the company in March as head of business acquisitions and strategy. In his new role he will be responsible for leading the location and portfolio planning team.

As well as having an active acquisitions and disposals programme, Co-op Estates manages a property portfolio that includes the group’s food retail and funeral outlets through to its commercial, investment, residential and agricultural assets.

It is currently involved in the development of the four-million sq ft NOMA project in Manchester City Centre where the company’s new headquarters, One Angel Square (pictured), opened last year.

“The location and portfolio planning team has a huge amount of acquired knowledge which is extremely valuable to the success of our convenience store acquisition programme,” said Nayak, who will also oversee the opening of more than 100 new Co-op outlets this year.

Global property agents DTZ has recruited a new associate director to its retail agency team to take charge of disposals for Manchester City Council, Manchester Metropolitan University, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Nat West.

Will Thomas, who joins DTZ’s Manchester office from Liverpool-based Mason Owen and Partners, will also be dealing with acquisition and disposals for retail and leisure clients Vodafone, Virgin Money and Robinson’s Equestrian.

“We see the retail sector as an ongoing area of opportunity,” said John Keyes, head of the Manchester office. “DTZ’s commitment to growth in this sector allows us to continue to service our very strong client base at a local level.”

Tom Shelton is joining national property consultancy, Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), as a senior surveyor.

Recruited from London-based surveyors, Tuckerman, where he gained a range of experience working with local and national clients that included Land Securities, Great Portland Estates, CLS Holdings Ltd, F & C Reit and Grosvenor. Shelton will be working in LSH’s Sheffield office in partnership with chartered surveyor Tom Burlaga, who joined the business last December.

Founded just six years ago, specialist legal property management firm Brady Solicitors has added to its 30-strong team with several new hirings.

Lesley Brentnall joins the firm from regional lawyers Shakespeares, where she was an associate for 15 years. Property administrator Andrea White has also joined the firm from Shakespeares and will work alongside Brentnall as a paralegal.

Amy Hope-Smith is also joining Brady — which is recommended by the Legal 500 and holds the Property Management Legal Services Award — to lead the commercial property team.

Law firm Brabners, which has offices in Liverpool, Manchester and Preston, has made two promotions within its property and corporate departments. Helen Brown is now a senior associate specialising in commercial real estate and Simon Lewis becomes a corporate senior associate.

Recently qualified Ben Rothery is staying with Worcestshire-based lawyers mfg as an assistant solicitor within its 12-strong corporate and commercial property division. He joined the firm as a trainee in 2011 and will initially be working out of mfg’s Kidderminster office.
