A Hefty Price-Tag for a Full English Breakfast

Posted on 1 September, 2012 by MOVEHUT

The first meal of the day may be the last for those travelling around London on a tight budget.

A traditional round of sausage, bacon and eggs could set you back as much as £39 at some of the capital’s most luxurious commercial property establishments. A five- star price tag for a five- star hotel some would say.

The £39 breakfast served at the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel tops the list of most costly breakfasts compiled by the mobile phone booking company Blink Booking, with the Dorchester following closely behind at £36. According to listings in The AA Best Hotel Guide 2012, there are only four five-star hotels offering a hearty breakfast for less than £20.

The hotels that serve the ten most high-priced full English breakfasts in London (including service charge) are:

  • Jumeirah Carlton Hotel £39
  • The Dorchester £36
  • The Ritz £35
  • The Berkeley £34
  • Mandarin Oriental £32
  • Claridge’s £31.50
  • Corinthia Hotel London £31
  • The Connaught £31
  • The Savoy £31
  • The Langham £30
  • The cheapest five-star breakfast can be found at The Levin hotel in Knightsbridge at £9.95.

Managing director of Blink Booking UK, Mark Datta, said: “While many might expect to pay a premium to eat in London’s top hotels, the results of the breakfast research still shocked us a bit.

“Thirty-nine pounds is a hefty price to pay to start your day, especially when you consider that many of Blink Bookings last-minute hotel deals will give you a night in a top-quality hotel for the price of breakfast for two at some of these hotels.”
