British Land is inviting shoppers to savour flavours from around the globe at four of its shopping parks. The new initiative celebrates the best of British street food and will run every weekend for the rest of the year.
Eats from the Street kicked off at Glasgow Fort Shopping Park and is scheduled to visit Fort Kinnaird Shopping Park in Edinburgh, Chester’s Broughton Shopping Park and Teesside Shopping Park in Stockton-on-Tees.
A restored red route master bus will accompany the events, providing diners with an unusual setting for their meals.
The concept is part of British Land’s strategy to enhance the food and drink offer across its portfolio and will bring a fresh culinary experience to customers at the retail destinations.
Street food has grown in popularity in the UK over the past two years, and a number of successful new restaurants – including Meat Liquor, Pizza Pilgrims, Patty and Bun and Pitt Cue – began life on the streets.
For this initiative British Land has teamed up with Richard Johnson, who set up British Street Food and established the British Street Foods Awards, to celebrate the best young chefs currently cooking on the streets.
British Land’s Head of Retail, Charles Maudsley, said; “Eats from the Street is a great initiative that enhances the customer experience at our shopping parks and makes good quality food fun and accessible.
“It is just one of the ways we are ensuring our shopping parks remain Places People Prefer.”
Street food traders taking part in Eats from the Street include British Street Food Award winners Nusou, Scottish Food Award winners Breaking Bread, together with Zoete Koek, Mighty Mexican and Crema Caravan.
