Recently, representatives from the three companies were joined by city officials for the official groundbreaking ceremony for 900 16th Street, a new Class A building located two blocks from the White House.

The new building will stand nine stories tall once construction is completed. It will have 125,000 sq ft of office space, 4,000 sq ft of ground-floor retail space, a fitness centre and three levels of parking.

Miller & Chevalier, a leading law firm, will occupy about 70 per cent of the office space while the Third Church of Christ will occupy a 12,000 sq ft.

The church, whose original Brutalist style octagon building (pictured) has been demolished as part of the plans, will hold services in its new home along with operating a reading room, an auditorium and administrative offices.

900 16th Street was designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects of New York in association with Cooper Carry Inc.

High-quality materials, such as Cherokee marble, Indiana limestone and bronze trim will be used to construct the exterior of the building. These materials have also been used in the construction of several monuments and government buildings along the National Mall.

The new building will feature two entrances: one will be for the new Third Church of Christ house of worship and the other will lead to the commercial space.

The developers have not revealed the cost of the project, which is expected to be completed in December of 2015.
