Tennis star Andy Murray has bought the hotel where his brother got married and plans to turn it into a luxury five-star hotel.

The US Open champion and Olympic gold medallist reportedly paid £1.8 million for the Cromlix House Hotel, which is not far from his Dunblane home town. His brother, Jamie married his wife Alejandra at Cromlix three years ago.

The hotel is set in 50 acres of land and has its own trout loch and chapel. Andy is planning to transform the hotel house into a 15 bedroom luxury hotel, complete with its own Chez Roux restaurant. The hotel will be open by September 2014, which coincides with the Ryder Cup in Gleneagles which is only 13 miles away.

In a statement, Murray spoke of his plans and was pleased “to be able to give something back to the community [which he] grew up in.”

He continued: “I am pleased to have acquired Cromlix House and look forward to securing its future as a successful business.

“By re-establishing Cromlix as a leading luxury hotel at the heart of the Dunblane community we will be able to attract new visitors to the area, create a number of new jobs and focus on supporting other local businesses.”

Once a major refurbishment is completed, around 40 permanent jobs will be created. The hotel will be managed by Inverlochy Castle Management International (ICMI) on Andy’s behalf.

“We are delighted to be working with Andy on this very exciting project to redevelop and run Cromlix House,” Norbert Lieder, Managing Director of ICMI said.
