Work has started on a new business campus aimed at attracting world class companies to Scotland’s latest development zone.
Enerfield Business Park lies within the Energetica corridor — a 30 mile area extending from Aberdeen and Peterhead and bordered by Aberdeen International Airport — and will eventually provide more than 800,000 sq ft of development space.
Construction of the park’s first speculative projects started in the summer, with a 13,000 sq ft warehouse, 3,230 sq ft of offices and almost 54,000 sq ft of yard space slated for completion by December. Half-a-mile north of Foveran, the site will also benefit from the future upgrading of the A90 road between Aberdeen and Fraserburgh.
The land is owned and being developed by Andrew Booth who feels his new venture will “energise the business environment in the north-east of Scotland” and help attract global companies to the area.
“Enerfield Business Park is in an ideal position, with strong transport links, and has been designed to meet the Energetica objectives with sustainable principles and careful consideration to the surrounding area and green infrastructure,” Booth said.
“It also offers a great work-life balance, with a stunning natural environment and local amenities, including schools and housing developments, and only a short drive to the city centre.”
Launched in 2001, the Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Future (ACSEF) initiative — a joint initiative between Scottish Enterprise and Aberdeen city and shire councils — has set itself the target of attracting over 1,500 businesses to the Energetica corridor over the next decade. “It is great to see this project moving forward so quickly,” said Shire Provost Jill Webster.
“Aberdeenshire has a lot to offer for businesses looking to locate to the north-east of Scotland and these high-quality units provide the perfect opportunity for businesses of all types and sizes to make the most of the area’s fantastic assets,” she added.
Energetica director, Derek McCrindle called the start of work at Enerfield a “significant moment for a scheme that would help to attract high-quality businesses into the area, encourage greater investment and create new jobs”.
He said: “There is a lot to offer business with Energetica with some great opportunities arising in key locations throughout the city and shire.
“The level of investment taking place in this area is significant and the infrastructure and skills base makes it an ideal location for any company looking for a new base.”
