Making a will is something we all should do sooner rather than later, but more and more of us often put it off, with only 40 per cent of the UK population having a will. Eight commercial property law firms in Sheffield are participating in Will Month by offering their services to draw up a will at a discounted rate, all of which will be donated to St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield.
Will Month runs throughout the whole of April of this year, but it is advisable to book a place with a solicitor as soon as possible as many people will be taking advantage of this discounted rate in solicitors fees. Speaking of Will Month, Kathryn Burkitt, Head of Fundraising at St Luke’s Hospice, said: “Will Month is an excellent way to not only keep your affairs in order but also to make a great contribution to St Luke’s.”
Where there is a will, there is a way!
Anyone who has a house, children, got recently married or newly divorced is advised to have a will in order to protect their loved ones in the event of their death. Any of the eight participating solicitors firms can draw a will up for you for a minimum donation of £50 for a single person, £90 for a couple and £40 for an adjustment to an existing will.
Speaking of the importance of having a will, Nichola Carmichael, a specialist probate solicitor at Taylor & Emmet stated: “Many people think, wrongly, that wills are only for the rich, but if you own a house or other assets of value, it is the only way to control who will benefit from them when you die.
“We urge people who are considering having a will drawn up to take part in St Luke’s Wills Month. It is an excellent opportunity to put plans in place for a fraction of the normal cost and support this invaluable community resource.”
St Luke’s is a hospice based in Sheffield which offers care to people with incurable illnesses free of charge. The charity completely relies on donations from the public and treats around 1,400 patients every year with help from 170 staff and 400 volunteers.
