UCAS Clearing Could Increase Commercial Properties

You have been waiting for this day to arrive; you have just received your A-Level results, ripped the envelope open with anticipation, but the glum look on your face explains it all. The results are not what you wanted or needed to secure the university place that you have been dreaming about for months. So what now? Do you find a job, sit and dwell or look for other suitable higher education courses through UCAS clearing?

David Willetts, The Universities Minister expressed, “Going to university has always been a competitive process and not all who apply are accepted.” To help students, UCAS offers a clearing service, which provides a list of course still available at varies universities around the country. You can check ‘track’ to see if you are eligible to use Clearing. In here you will be given a clearing number, this is very important as when you contact a university, they will ask for this number to check that you are in clearing and also to read your application and grades.

However many students had difficulty yesterday accessing the track site as it experienced four times as many visitors and the servers just couldn’t cope. So it does raise the question that does UCAS need to increase its amount of servers to cope with the influx of visitors during exam results? To do this, they would not only need more servers, but also a commercial property to enclose them in.

Applications this year for university places have increased by 2.5 percent as compared to last year, as students rushed to miss out on the fee increase which will come into force next year. With so much demand for university places and many students moving to different cities for their place, will this mean more customers for local firms and the possibility to expand their business into new commercial properties?
