London’s Haymarket Hotel has been named the best in the UK. The Piccadilly hotel beat off hundreds of rivals to gain the accolade in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards. It also scooped seventh place in the European top hotels category and 20th in the worldwide nominations.
Located in Suffolk Place, the Georgian property contains a mixture of 50 bedrooms and suites along with an exclusive attached townhouse featuring up to five separate bedrooms. Guests can make use of a gym and adjoining spa, and are able to dine in a 70 person dining space – all for a cost of around £400 per night.
General Manager at the Haymarket Hotel, Lisa Brooklyn-Fuhres, says; “We are thrilled and honoured to receive such a fantastic award.
“We truly value our TripAdvisor reviews and constantly strive to give our guests a memorable experience.
“This wouldn’t be possible without such a brilliant team and this is a testament to all their hard work.”
The Haymarket Hotel was not the only London landmark to shine at the TripAdvisor awards ceremony, as the The Milestone Hotel in Kensington took second place in the UK category. Furthermore, The Corinthia Hotel London, The Goring and Rosewood London scooped up sixth, seventh and eighth places respectively in the top UK hotels category.
However, many of the most highly placed hotels in a range of categories were found in regional areas throughout the country, with the Lawton Court Hotel in Llandudno, north Wales, named the best hotel for a bargain in the world. Meanwhile, the award for the world’s best bed and breakfast experience went to the Millgate Bed and Breakfast in North Yorkshire, as the £38 per person per night price tag proved immensely popular with guests.
Unfortunately, the UK failed to scoop the award for the best hotel on the planet, which went to the Gili Lankanfushi luxury resort in the Maldives. However, the price tag of £1,144 per night on average there meant that the UK’s prime contenders were certainly more affordably priced!
London’s tourism industry continues to thrive, with visitors spending a record £3.56 billion in the capital city last summer. James Kay, speaking for TripAdvisor, hopes that the awards will continue to fuel a steady stream of tourism revenue this year.
He continues; “These awards recognise the finest hotels across the globe, according to those that really matter – the guests themselves.
“This year is particularly good news for the UK hotel industry, with the UK home to more of the world’s best rated properties than any other country.”
