Happy New Year from everyone at Movehut
Some of you will be feeling a little fragile this morning as you awake from a night of drink and laughter welcoming the New Year in. But as we say goodbye to 2012, what have been the highlights and what can we expect to see in 2013?
This year we hosted a hugely successful Olympic Games, the Queen celebrated her Diamond Jubilee and last but not least, we survived the end of the world. But what will this year bring and will it be as exciting as the last one? Movehut investigates.
Late last year we found out that William and Kate were expecting their first child. The child is expected to be due any time after May, as dates have not been officially given out by the Palace. Shops up and down the country have been getting merchandise ready for any budding royalists who hope to cash in on the news.
But the child will also change history as an outdated rule is changed. Usually the first boy born to a royal couple will become in-line for the throne, whether they are first born of third born after sisters. But the Government have rushed a change through meaning that even if the baby is a girl, she will automatically become third in-line to the throne after her grandfather Charles and father William.
It was recently announced that Bradley Wiggins won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2012 due to his amazing year in the world of cycling. He became the first British man to win the Tour de France and is the only cyclist to win that alongside an Olympic gold medal in the same year. His success did not go unnoticed, as David Cameron tweeted.
He said: “Congratulations to Bradley Wiggins -a truly inspirational winner, after an incredible year for British sport.”
So it was all in all a fantastic year for the cyclist. But will 2013 be just as good? Bradley will be defending his title on the 100th Tour de France which starts on 29th June and finishes on 21st July with around 3,360 kilometres of cycling in between.
