Location:
The site lies within the Alum Rock area of Birmingham, in the ward of Washwood Heath, approx. 4.2km (2.6 miles) to the east of the city centre. The site sits just to the south of Alum Rock Road, which connects to the middle ring road, giving access to the city centre. It also links to the Aston Expressway 3.9km (2.4 miles) to the west which connects to the M6 6.8km (4.2 miles) to the north-west for wider regional and national links. The site extends to approximately 8.37 acres (3.39 hectares).
To the south-west of the site is Adderley Park Railway Station, situated approximately 1.8km (1.1 miles) away and Stechford Railway Station 2.4km (1.5 miles) to the south east of the site. The area is also well served by local bus services, with two bus stops adjacent to the site along Alum Rock Road.
The site has good access to local services and amenities, including schools, nurseries, medical centre, places of worship and Saltley Community Leisure Centre to the south of the site, accessible via a footbridge over the railway line.
Description:
The site comprises the former Smith & Nephew factory, and was cleared of industrial premises around 8 years ago. The site is now fully vacant.
A foul sewer is understood to be running from south to north across the site entering the site at the Alderson Road boundary and exiting the site onto Alum Rock Road.
Washwood Heath Brook which is culverted also runs south to north across the site, approximately 40 metres east of the foul sewer.
In addition, three capped artesian wells remain on site, two of which are close to the western boundary and one located near the northeast boundary.
