Global logistics and distribution space owner, Prologis, has confirmed it has let a 310,000 sq ft Bedfordshire warehouse it speculatively built last year to Amazon.

Amazon agrees Fourth Distribution Hub Deal with Prologis

The internet giant is expected to have its latest UK distribution centre at Prologis Park Dunstable operational by this autumn and has already started recruiting the hub’s 500-strong workforce.

“Prologis has a strong relationship with Amazon in Britain and at a global level, so we are delighted to be working with the company again at Dunstable,” commented Prologis UK managing director, Andrew Griffiths.

The Dunstable distribution centre, completed last October, is Amazon’s fourth Prologis-owned site in the UK. The Seattle-headquartered company also occupies 545,000 sq ft at Prologis Kingston Park in Peterborough, 500,000 sq ft at Prologis Park Marston Gate and 161,000 sq ft at Prologis Hemel Hempstead.

“We believe that Dunstable is a strong location for the logistics sector and we are investing in our site on Boscombe Road because it offers some of the best opportunities for our customers in the South East market,” added Griffiths, whose company owns and manages more than 23 million sq ft of logistics and distribution space in Britain.

Jason Longhurst is director of business and regeneration at Central Bedfordshire Council. “Location was important to the success of this deal, as was the enormous benefit of having previously assigned a Local Development Order to this area, which really helped to speed things up for Amazon,” he admitted.
