Don Valley Stadium is already getting fully booked for the year despite it only being February – with events ranging from charity runs to concerts and sporting events.

Don Valley Stadium, which is part of Sheffield International Venues (SIV), hosts a variety of different events throughout the year. Sporting events include: boxing matches, Care Home Olympics, charity runs, Festival of Athletics day, football matches, rugby games and school sports days.

Non sporting events include: company team briefings, computer fairs, Christmas and birthday parties, exhibitions, food expo, model car racing, paper craft shows, promotions, property auctions, team building days and wedding shows, just to name a few.

Speaking of the events at the commercial property in Sheffield, Pat Smith, General Manager of the stadium, stated: “The events programme for Don Valley Stadium for the next year and beyond is a varied and diverse schedule that incorporates sporting, educational and commercial activities throughout the venue.

“Not only do we have a busy events programme for the public to enjoy, but the stadium is home to numerous clubs and associations which use the facility week in, week out.”

As well as hosting events the venue has conference and exhibition space, as well as meeting and seminar rooms. They also offer education establishments, such as The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, space to hold exams. This market equates to 30 per cent of the venue’s revenue, which brought in £270,000 last year alone.

“The facility balances elite and community sports and non sports events usage with activities for all ages and abilities from athletics and gymnastics to indoor bowls and remote control car racing,” Ms Smith added.

The commercial property has been open two decades and attracts roughly 266,000 visitors per year. The venue can hold up to 50,000 spectators for their range of events, and also has a gym, which has roughly 1000 members.

The commercial property has seen many huge acts perform at the stadium, including: Arctic Monkeys, Def Leppard, the Spice Girls and U2.
