The initiative, launched in partnership with The Space performing arts centre, will deliver a summer of activities in the amphitheatre of the landscaped roof garden which sits on top of the seven-storey building.

The programme of free events and workshops –dubbed ‘Bloom’ – offers Tower Hamlets residents the opportunity to take part in and enjoy a wide variety of theatre, dance and music designed to fire the imaginations of children and adults alike.

To launch the partnership, Canary Wharf Group has announced ‘Early Bloom’, the first in a series of Community Arts Festivals this year. Over the weekend of 16 & 17 May, the gardens will be brought to life by local dance, performance and musical groups showcasing the diverse talent of Tower Hamlets.

Groups currently confirmed for the event are Embrace Dance, The Isle of Dogs Choir, George Greens School and SpaceWorks.

Head of Community Affairs for Canary Wharf Group, Zakir Khan, said: “We want the performance space to be a special place which is truly accessible to local people.

“To make this happen we approached The Space which has delivered top quality performance and events in the borough for over 18 years.

“We are working closely with them, utilising their expertise and local knowledge to deliver a first class programme of activity this summer.”

Adam Hemming, Manager at the Space Theatre, added: “We have tried to develop a programme that anyone can engage with, whether they want to simply watch a show, try their hand at acting or if they are part of an established local group which would like to perform in this fabulous new performance space.

“The Crossrail Place Gardens are a unique location and it will be very exciting to see what this inspiring environment evokes in people.”
