DTZ appointed to procure developer for Walsall Phoenix 10 Site

Property advisor DTZ has been appointed to help find a developer for the Phoenix Site 10 in Walsall by the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) and Walsall Council. Interested parties are now being invited to take part take part in a market consultation exercise.

The 44 acre Phoenix 10 site is located in Darlaston within the Black Country Enterprise Zone and comprises the former IMI Copper Works and the adjoining council-owned land.

A private sector developer is being sought to redevelop the site for employment uses which will, in turn, boost economic growth.

Jonathan Turner, Director of Development Consulting at DTZ commented: “Bringing such a large area of land back into productive use will make a significant positive contribution to Walsall’s employment land supply and make an important contribution to economic growth and employment in the borough while also enhancing the local environment. We look forward to working closely with the Council and HCA to realise their vision for the site”.

Walsall Council’s portfolio holder for regeneration, Councillor Mohammad Nazir said: “It’s great to have DTZ on board to support the HCA and ourselves in marketing the site to developers from the private sector. Securing the development of such a large site can make a massive contribution to employment opportunities for local people, a top priority for Walsall Council and the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership”.

Mr Nazir added that this site is important for both the economy of Walsall and the region.

Executive Director for the HCA, Christine Addison also commented “This is an important step towards attracting a development partner for Phoenix 10. We look forward to working collaboratively with the council to deliver this important Enterprise Zone site and bring further jobs and economic growth in the Walsall area.”

October last year saw work begin on a £26 million highway improvement scheme around Darlaston, which will help unlock land and improve transport links for occupiers of the site. On top of this, £64.5 million worth of improvements to M6 Junction 10 will support the Enterprise Zone as a whole.
