In another positive indicator for Birmingham’s leisure sector, plans are currently in place for a 31 bedroom hotel in the Jewellery Quarter, which could see up to 40 new full and part time jobs created.

Husband and wife team, and founders of Suburban Inns, Sharon and Adrian Harvey, are looking to get the hotel under way, which will be situated on two floors above The Rope Walk pub, in an area that is known as an historic manufacturing quarter.

AT Architects, who are working on the design for the conversion, said in a statement: “The proposal will bring jobs and further revenue as well as additional visitors into the area which will add to the local services.

“It will make use of the existing building to its full potential while still retaining the external elevations. It is felt the proposal is appropriate in terms of scale and design and remains consistent with the character of the square”.

Suburban Inns’ first project was the renovation of the former Village Inn in Moseley in 2013 and they currently own the Royal Hotel in Sutton Coldfield.

Other plans for the St Paul’s Square and Jewellery Quarter area are the extension of Italian restaurant, Pasta Di Piazza and the conversion of 63 St Paul’s Square, which could see it become a restaurant and flats.

There is also the possibility of an extension of the Bloc Hotel in Caroline Street, to create a 30 bedroom apart-hotel and later in the year, Staycity is looking at opening a 170 bedroom apart-hotel in Newhall Square.
