Leeds Office Building could be transformed into a Hotel

An office building right in the heart of Leeds, which has stood empty for a number of years, may be transformed into a hotel, the owners have revealed.

The building in question, named City House, is located next to the train station in Leeds and is an excellent location for commuters and tourists visiting the city.

City House was bought by Bruntwood in July 2010 and they hope to have it ready for commercial use later this year. Planning permission was granted in 2011 to redevelop the building after it had been left derelict for a number of years.

A hotel is the favoured option for the 14 story building, but Bruntwood are open to other ideas from developers as Craig Burrow, the director of Bruntwood’s operations in Leeds, explained.

He said: “At City House we are in fairly advanced negotiations with end users. There could be multiple uses for the building – one possibility is a hotel, but there could also be interest in using it as offices and a gym.

“One of the biggest challenges and advantages is its location – we have got a very good working relationship with Network Rail, who are looking at making some significant improvements to the station. City House fits in with aspirations to create a quality gateway.”

Are you a Leeds resident? What do think of the plans for City House? Do you think Leeds needs another hotel, or would you prefer the building to be used as it previously was, as office space? Share your opinions with us below.
