The True Cost of Watching LFC Play

If you’re a football fan, you will know there is no better feeling than watching your team play live. Being part of the atmosphere, joining in with the banter and signing along to your team’s football songs, is all part of the fun. But these memories come at a cost and for Liverpool fans and this cost just got higher.

Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge

Loyal Liverpool FC fans have seen their season ticket prices rise by up to nine per cent, depending where you want to sit. But if you sit on the Kop end, prices have been frozen at £725 for an adult.

The most expensive season ticket is in the Centenary Stand which will cost an adult £850, a rise of five per cent.

The price hike has been hit by opposition, especially by Liverpool’s supporters union, Spirit of Shankly. In a statement on their website, they said:

“In the midst of austerity, with redundancies and cutbacks a daily reality for many supporters, these inflation-busting price rises are an insult to long-standing supporters who have already suffered a massive 716% price rise since 1989.

“While the announcement regarding Kop season tickets is a relief to many, it is our belief that ticket prices are already too high, pricing out many of those that kept the club on its feet during its darkest days.”

Liverpool season tickets are the ninth most expensive in the Premier League. Arsenal has the title for the priciest ticket, costing fans £1,995 for a season. Whilst Liverpool’s neighbour, Everton have one of the cheapest at £427 for next season.

Fans of today’s opponents Southampton pay between £495 and £780 to support their team in their first season back in the Premier League.

Are you a Liverpool fan? Do you buy a season ticket every year, or will you be giving up your seat due to the price increase and walking alone?
