Over 20,000 property professionals are gathering in the South of France today as MIPIM 2013 gets underway in Cannes. MIPIM (Le marché international des professionnels de l’immobilier – the international market for real estate professionals) is an annual four day event bringing together the most influential players in the international property industry.

Over 80 countries are represented at this year’s event, ranging from the UK, Germany and France, to Russia the United States and emerging South American nations. Delegates will be able to participate in over 60 conference sessions exploring industry trends, visit exhibitions showcasing nearly 2,000 companies and take advantage of the opportunity to network at a number of awards ceremonies.

The entire spectrum of the industry is represented at MIPIM, offering access to the maximum number of international property development projects and sources of investment. The key areas are as follows;

  • Urban Planning – local authorities and urban planners.
  • Project Funding – Investors (direct and indirect).
  • Project Planning – Developers and architects.
  • Project Execution – Contractors.
  • Leasing and Usage – Landlords, occupiers and property brokers.
  • Portfolio Management – Asset managers, property investors and brokers.

Free shuttle busses will be running throughout the day and night to ferry delegates between venues, but first timers are advised to pack a comfortable pair of shoes as there is a lot of walking involved. Other tips include dressing to impress, keeping business cards at the ready and carrying as little luggage around as possible – a notebook, smartphone and tablet device will suffice.

UK local authorities are heavily represented at MIPIM. Joining delegates from Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff  Derby and Leeds is a deputation from inward investment team Make it Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.

They will be promoting the area’s central geographical location and raising awareness of prime sites available for commercial development. The team is looking forward to the opportunity to secure investment and are expecting to be very busy throughout the four days.

Are you taking part in MIPIM 2013? If so why not share your experiences with us and we’ll include them in an update following the closure of the event.
