Warwick Business School is to establish an outpost at The Shard it has been confirmed. The educational institution has leased the 17th floor of the Stirling Prize shortlisted tower and will utilise the new base as a “campus in the sky” for its MSc Human Resource Management & Employment Relations course.

The 12,150 sq ft floor will feature a specially designed 100 seat lecture theatre, a smaller lecture hall capable of seating 60 students, eight seminar rooms and a state of the art IT lab.

Warwick Business School Dean Mark Taylor believes that a foothold in London will prove highly advantageous as a means of attracting students to the course.

He says; “We want to become the leading university based business school in Europe and a base at The Shard will be another step towards that.”

The outpost will work in tandem with the current facilities at the University of Warwick, which are currently benefiting from a £30 million programme to extend and refurbish the school’s main campus.

At present, around 6,500 students from 125 countries worldwide study at Warwick Business School per year, and The Shard’s facilities will allow for a greater number of admissions per annum.

Warwick Business School joins financial advisory firm Arma Partners and an, as yet, undisclosed drinks brand as the Shard’s latest tenants.

Arma Partners has taken 10,500 sq ft on level 27 and will begin fitting out the space this month before taking occupation in August.

The drinks brand has signed a lease for the remaining 4,900 sq ft of the same floor for its first London base.

Phillip Hobley, of Knight Frank, believes the latest tenancy deals are a “testament” to the vision of creating a “vertical city” with multiple occupiers.

“The Shard’s offices now comprise companies from finance, energy, corporate, media, legal and education sectors,” he said.

“With tenants already operating in The Shard offices, and News UK’s brands already moving into sister building The News Building, there is a real vibrancy about this area, which will ensure it remains a sustainable community over the long term.”
