Daniel Thwaites has plans to build its new headquarters at a farm north of Blackburn. The brewery will be moving from its current home in the Lancashire town centre to a seven-acre site located at Sykes Holt, Mellor Brook.

Thwaites is expected to submit plans for a new brewery facility, a head office for 200 staff, and a visitor centre.

Distribution will continue from the Blackburn depot for what has been described as the “foreseeable future.”

The brewer said it does not have any current plans for the town centre site after it was unable to reach agreement for the redevelopment of the site involving a Sainsbury’s supermarket.

Chief Executive Richard Bailey said that the new site site had been chosen because it was a great fit for the company’s vision for the future of the business.

Completion of the transaction will take place in six months giving the current owner enough time to move out of the site.

During this time, Thwaites will be working hard to make sure that when the purchase is complete, construction can start straight away.
