There is already a waiting list for space at the Hampshire university’s Chilworth science and technology campus with all the 17 existing buildings and facilities fully let. It has now embarked on a new construction project to provide “much-needed Grade A accommodation for pioneering businesses at the forefront of science”.

The Venture Road scheme will allow the park to expand its successful innovation and enterprise activity, attracting new companies as well as enabling it to better serve its rapidly expanding existing occupier line-up.

To be built on the park’s Benham Campus, the new 30,600 sq ft Benham Five block will include office accommodation over three floors, together with meeting and conference rooms and a second on-site coffee shop.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to expand our accommodation here at the science park which will not only help us to meet the needs of current tenants, but also give us the means to attract new businesses,” commented the chief executive of Southampton Science Park, Peter Birkett.

“It is vital that we support the innovative entrepreneurial businesses which are driving economic development here on the South Coast.

“We do so, not just by providing inspiring surroundings, but also by encouraging the development of a mutually supportive community spirit which has proved a major factor in the growth of tenant companies,” he added.

Scores of ventures are already based at the park, ranging from information technology and internet enterprises to health and engineering companies. The mobile technology solutions company, Nine23, has operated from Southampton Science Park for two years, progressing through three larger and larger offices.

“We have been very pleased with our decision to base our operations here,” explained chief executive, Stuart McKean. “It has enabled us to access the right level of accommodation and support in line with our business growth and I foresee that it will continue to do so as our business evolves.”

Commercial property agency Vail Williams is the sole agent for Southampton Science Park.
