Will King’s Cross Square Boost the Local Commercial Property Market?

Last week King’s Cross Square officially reopened, marking the final stage of the redevelopment of the station and its surroundings. The 75,000 square foot public space reveals the original facade of the station for the first time in 150 years.

London Mayor Boris Johnson described it as “a whole new vibrant district.” He went on to say that the transformation of King’s Cross is “not only beautiful but it has also triggered all sorts of regeneration, with new jobs, huge numbers of homes being built and businesses relocating here.”

King’s Cross Square includes an area dedicated to public art and the opening was accompanied by performers dressed as “living statues” dressed in Victorian costumes.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin noted that he had been traveling to and from his Derbyshire constituency for years and could remember when King’s Cross and St. Pancras were “not places you would want to hang around. Now it is a destination in its own right.” He said.

Approximately 150,000 people pass through the Grade I listed railway station each day.

What do you think of the redevelopment of King’s Cross Square? Will it boost employment and the commercial property market in the surrounding area?
