YO! Sushi Opens UK’s Largest Restaurant in an Airport

YO! Sushi has opened the UK’s largest restaurant, which measures over 1,000 sq. m. in London’s Gatwick Airport.

The fast food restaurant which opened last week is part of a list of new retail commercial properties that are opening in the airport’s North Terminal. Jamie Oliver opened a restaurant in the terminal only a few weeks ago.

“The new addition of YO! Sushi just goes to show how committed we are to invigorating Gatwick and providing passengers with sought after eating options.

“As we continue our journey to transform the airport, providing modern facilities and giving great customer service, passengers are seeing the benefits of a much wider range of choice between ‘food on the go’ outlets, relaxed coffee houses and high quality dining restaurants,’’ Gatwick Airport’s Head of Retail, Spencer Sheen said.

The YO! Sushi restaurantoffers customers fresh Japanese cuisine in over 90 different choices. Customers can choose from soup, rice, noodles, salads, sushi dishes as well as breakfast boxes and yogurts. Customers can simply take a seat and wait for the dishes to come round on the ‘kaiten’ conveyer belt system, which travels at 8cm per second.

Speaking of the move to Gatwick Airport, Robin Rowland CEO of YO! Sushi said: “As we continue to innovate our dishes and restaurant design, we have naturally expanded our on-the-go portfolio to locations like Gatwick Airport, offering a fantastic choice of Japanese inspired dishes to travellers looking for something different.

“Along with our array of healthy, high quality and great value dishes, we provide a fun and fast paced environment which appeals to the huge variety of consumers that travel through airports and train stations.”

The restaurant chain, which started in 2001, has 76 commercial properties in its portfolio and operates in five different countries. The meals are all prepared on site and although sushi may put a lot of vegetarians off visiting the restaurants, in fact 25 per cent off all dishes are suitable for a vegetarian diet. As well as cold food, 35 per cent of all dishes are cooked or served hot.
