History of England

Part of the United Kindgom, England is a country that borders Scotland and Wales, and is part of the European Union. England sits in the Atlantic Ocean and has generally mild temperatures that don't tend to go to extremes at either end of the scale. In the summertime, average high temperatures can reach 32 degrees C, while in the winter the average is 0 degrees C.

England's population numbers over 50 million, and is high for the size of the country in comparison to many other European countries. England is divided into counties like Cheshire, Cambridgeshire and Staffordshire, and metropolitan areas like Greater Manchester, and Merseyside. The metropolitan areas themselves account for around 22% of the total population of England. This does not include Greater London, which is an administrative area encompassing the City of London and 32 other boroughs. It is also home to over 8 million people - more than 10 per cent of the entire population of England.

The economy of England is one of the biggest worldwide, and is the largest in the United Kingdom. London itself is one of the leading financial cities in the world. In general, England's economy is built on a mixture of industrial work and the serviced based industry, although traditional industries such as manufacture and agriculture still thrive in more rural areas.
