Industry Moves: Property Litigator takes 30 Years’ Experience to Birmingham Legal Practice

A founding partner of international law and tax experts CMS Cameron McKenna’s real estate dispute team, Andrew Walker has joined the Birmingham legal practice of Squire Patton Boggs (SPB) as a partner and head of its UK property limitation department.

With a 30-year legal career, Walker will advise a range of clients including institutional investors, developers, banks, corporate and charity owners and occupiers of real estate on their property disputes. “Andrew is an experienced, well connected property litigator who will expand the capabilities of our litigation and real estate practices in Birmingham and across the UK,” said SPB’s managing partner, Nick Green.

Walker’s appointment follows commercial property lawyer Neil Taylor’s recent promotion to partner, increasing the number of real estate partners in the firm’s Birmingham office to five.

BNP Paribas Real Estatehas added a new name to its Sheffield valuation team. Senior surveyor Edward Pawley is joining BNP with more than 12 years’ experience of the Yorkshire and north of England commercial property sector.

“The addition of Edward to the existing team gives us added strength and depth and, due to his proven track record, ensures that our clients’ needs are expertly managed,” said Mark Thompson, a senior director with the Sheffield valuation team and head of the firm’s national corporate valuation service.

Nottingham property agent FHP is strengthening its third office 15 miles away and at the other end of the A52 by recruiting a new commercial associate director for its Derby operation.

Tim Richardson, who has worked in commercial property for 20 years for both national and local agencies, will see his experience deployed in a broad range of areas, including strategic property advice, landlord and tenant work, valuation, rating and compulsory purchase. Richardson will also cover the industrial and office markets, investment property and land, working with private and public sectors.

OBI Property — the Manchester-based niche firm of chartered surveyors — has appointed Adrian Sharpe as non-executive chairman. Sharpe, who led biscuit maker Burton Foods until 2003, is a non-executive director at various UK companies, and advises London investment house Spayne Lindsay.

After 12 months of rapid growth and a doubling of its revue, the property litigation team at Langleys Solicitors in York has been joined by solicitor Kelly Kirby as an associate.  “I am confident Kelly will be a real asset to the team,” said partner and team head, Matthew Pugh “She has a great attitude and understands the importance of building strong client relationships which will prove invaluable as we continue to expand.”

The Leeds office of CBRE has appointed Anton Burton as an assistant surveyor within its specialist markets team. He joins as a graduate from Manchester University.
