An upcoming auction in will act as a barometer for agricultural land values across the Three Counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire says a specialist in the sector.
According to Matthew Peters (pictured), of agents Bruton Knowles, the auction – to be held on Wednesday September 9 at the Prescott Hill Climb Clubhouse near Cheltenham – could be of significant interest to farmers and landowners.
The auction will feature an 88.6 acre site between Teddington and Alstone which is available either in its entirety or as two separate lots.
Peters believes that the bidding will show exactly how land values are performing and provide an indicator as to how the market is holding up in view of generally disappointing commodity prices.
“The volume of supply is generally flat or even falling’” he said. “However, many farmers are looking to expand and invest – if something comes up on their doorstep they are more than willing to give it a go.
“We also have the cheapest borrowing costs for many years, so now really is the time to look at investing to secure assets like this.”
