British Land has today announced that three new retailers are to join the occupier line up at Plymouth’s Drake Circus Shopping Centre.

Popular homeware and gifts store Tiger has signed the lease for a 2,000 sq ft unit at the centre on a 10 year lease, while sports fashion retailer JD Sports will take up a 5,300 sq ft outlet, again on a 10 year lease.

In addition, following a wave of positive shopper feedback, lifestyle brand Cath Kidston has agreed to open up a 2,000 sq ft pop-up unit in the heart of the centre, which will run until January 2016.

Asset manager at British Land, Adam Poole said:“These retailers are fantastic additions to Drake Circus.  We introduced Cath Kidston to the centre in response to feedback from our customers.

“This demonstrates just how important customer surveys are for our business and how we are using this information to put retailers and consumers at the heart of what we do.”

The latest signings follow a host of new arrivals at Drake Circus, including Krispy Kreme, Pandora, Regus and local brand Drake Jewellers. The 560,000 sq ft shopping centre is also home to brands including Superdry, Schuh, Next, Primark and Starbucks.

The recent spike in interest may be due to the fact that, earlier in the year, planning permission was granted for a £40 million leisure extension which will be known as Drake Circus Leisure. The 100,000 sq ft scheme will lie adjacent to the centre and, should construction work begin in Summer 2016 as scheduled, will be ready to welcome customers by mid-2018.

Anchoring the leisure aspect will be a 12 screen cinema, which will be operated by Cineworld, and space will also be created for 14 new restaurant units. Mr Poole claims that the extension is part of British Land’s focus to grow the leisure provision across its retail portfolio.

He continues; “Looking ahead to the opening of the leisure extension in 2018, these additions help to establish Drake Circus’ status as the shopping destination of choice in the South West.”
